Anytime Steven Spielberg releases a movie, it’s worth celebrating. One of the greatest filmmakers of all time has spent over 50 years wowing audiences with his unforgettable work, and we’re all incredibly lucky that he’s still doing it. In recent years, though, the man behind Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Raiders of the Lost Ark has kept things a little smaller. Made movies that were less epic. That changes this summer.

On June 12, the man who invented the summer blockbuster returns to the summer for the first time in a decade with Disclosure Day. Starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, it’s a look at what might happen not only if aliens were real, but the world knew about them and was covering it up. It’s a topic that’s as timely as ever and one that touches upon Spielberg’s entire filmography. E.T., Close Encounters, War of the Worlds—if you want a great alien movie, Steven Spielberg is your guy.

Ahead of its release, members of the press have been able to see Disclosure Day and now their reactions are out. Is this a Spielberg return to form? Another forgettable film? Let’s see.

I loved #DisclosureDay.

A dense roller coaster ride blending chase film, love story, & mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder.

It’s Spielberg’s best film in 20 years, filled w/ all the magic that makes his films so special, plus an all-time character/performance by Emily Blunt. pic.twitter.com/cidIVruAtr

#DisclosureDay is the weirdest movie Spielberg’s ever made (complimentary). Breathtaking compositions, David Koepp’s X-FILES-meets-The Bible script is one big high-wire act, Emily Blunt’s most accomplished performance, John Williams’ best score in years. Riveting, moving stuff. pic.twitter.com/HzncLRORLD

Disclosure Day is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! Truly something special. I was hanging onto every word, captivated by the story as it all played out. The score perfectly elevates every single scene. Part mystery, part Twlight Zone, something new entirely. I shed a tear at the end. WOW. pic.twitter.com/w7UOEpOgmh

It’s a small selection (so far), but that’s me right at the top of that list, and I’m so beyond happy to say that Disclosure Day is incredible. A true Steven Spielberg movie in every sense of the idea. He’s made several fantastic films in the last 20 years, but when considering my take, I went down Spielberg’s filmography, and it wasn’t until 2002’s Catch Me If You Can where I said, “Oh, yeah, that one I like better.”

You’ll have to wait until the review embargo drops in a few weeks for more details. But, to get a sense of why I and others feel that way, check out this brand-new trailer released on Wednesday. It shows a lot, but I think it’s still vague enough not to completely ruin the movie.

Co-starring Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo, featuring a new score by the incomparable John Williams, Disclosure Day opens June 12, and tickets are on sale now.
