“So, what’d you do before the world ended?” Apparently there’s room for small talk even in the post-apocalypse. The characters in Ridley Scott‘s upcoming sci-fi tale The Dog Stars are thrown together after a global disaster, where survivors navigate a ruined world while trying to avoid the worst of what’s left.
The first trailer for The Dog Stars, adapted from Peter Heller’s novel, is here. Heller’s book came out in 2012, meaning he eerily predicted just how relatable a post-pandemic tale would feel in 2026. Of course, this world—populated by characters played by Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and more—definitely reflects a far harsher reality.
It looks like plenty of ammunition is still hanging around after the end of the world—damn, that’s a lot of head shots!—but planes are an awfully hot commodity. Here’s a plot description for Heller’s novel from the author’s website:
“Hig’s wife is gone, his friends are dead, and he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, Jasper, and a mercurial, gun-toting misanthrope named Bangley.
But when a random transmission beams through the radio of his 1956 Cessna, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists outside their tightly controlled perimeter. Risking everything, he flies past his point of no return and follows its static-broken trail, only to find something that is both better and worse than anything he could ever hope for.”
The Dog Stars hits theaters August 28.
