‘Spaceballs 2’ Is Already Making Fun of ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’

One of the main reasons 2027 is the perfect time to release a new Spaceballs is that Star Wars is in disarray. Sure, 2027 is the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and there are a lot of cool things planned, but the franchise hasn’t been itself in a long time. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker disappointed. Several live-action shows were one-and-done, and the most recent movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is all but assured to be the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars film ever.

And then here comes Spaceballs, who are just a bunch of assholes.

Spaceballs: The New One won’t be in theaters until April 23, 2027 (about one month before the next Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter), but it’s having a coming-out party next week at San Diego Comic-Con. And, in the build-up, the first plot description has been released, which takes a very pointed shot at the latest Star Wars big-screen adventure. Here’s the official description:

Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned! Forty years after the events of the first Spaceballs, fifty years after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, and one year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the galaxy is once again under threat. A threat so evil, so unstoppable, so completely lacking in any original ideas, that it has vowed to bring back the past… every last bit of it.

With Lone Starr in hiding, Queen Vespa on the throne, and the Schwartz stretched thinner than a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically, the only hope for the galaxy is Vespa’s undisciplined son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious Palace advisor named Destiny. Together, they must find Lone Starr, Yogurt, and any other iconic legacy characters fans are demanding before they discover the hard way that, while some threats you can fight, the reboot is not one of them.

So not only does The Mandalorian and Grogu catch a stray there, but The Rise of Skywalker too (Dark Helmet has returned!). This is already going very, very well for Spaceballs fans. The story itself sounds fun and very Force Awakens inspired. Plus, the description is also our first confirmation of Lewis Pullman and Keke Palmer’s character names, Prince Starburst and Destiny. “Destiny” is also hilarious, considering she’s surely the Rey-type character.

Along with the news came the hilarious first teaser poster, which fans of the original will enjoy.

They finally found shit! – MGM
