Linda Cardellini Drops a Few More ‘Crystal Lake’ Hints

Halloween merch is already popping up in stores, but we’ve still got to wait until October for Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake to finally make its debut. So far, fans haven’t gotten too much to chew on, aside from some first-look images and a few carefully worded interviews with Linda Cardellini, who stars as Pamela Voorhees.

Speaking to Deadline after her Emmy nomination for HBO’s DTF St. Louis was announced, Cardellini shared a tiny bit more about her upcoming Peacock horror series.

“She’s important to the series but sort of unexplored,” Cardellini said, referring to Pamela Voorhees—the mother of hockey-mask and machete fan Jason Voorhees.

Pamela, of course, is famously revealed as the mysterious killer who’s been stalking camp counselors throughout 1980’s Friday the 13th. Her motivation: revenge against those she blames for the drowning death of her son at Camp Crystal Lake two decades prior. Crystal Lake is a prequel to that film, and since Jason was cast with child actor Callum Vinson, we can speculate the show takes place ahead of his 1958 demise (long before his supernatural resurrection, his taking of Manhattan, his journey to space, and so on).

Cardellini thought the uncharted aspects of Pamela would make playing her “really, really fun, to do something I’d never done.”

And she’s not the only one who got excited about expanding Pamela’s small but crucial place in Friday the 13th lore. As Cardellini explained it, showrunner Brad Caleb Kane “has made sort of this mixtape of all the things that he would love to see happen for her. It goes all over the place for her character, and it’s really fun.”

We’d love to see a trailer soon—maybe Crystal Lake will have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con to make up for the underwhelming “Jason Universe” panel last year? Either way, Crystal Lake will give you an excuse to break out the trick-or-treat candy a little early, when it arrives October 15 on Peacock.
