Hunter Biden has been tearing up X for the past couple of weeks, with tweets going viral for their defiant comebacks and screw-you attitude. “Popular opinion: Hunter Biden rocks,” one X user tweeted while posting a supercut of old hacked videos of him with sex workers. “If you can overcome crack addiction u can lead a country hunter biden for president,” DJ John Summit tweeted.

Whatever you think of the Biden family, Hunter is at least entertaining. But we’re also getting some unvarnished peek at Hunter’s weirder side through his tweets, and we don’t mean his art or past struggles with substance abuse.

No, the weirder side of Hunter Biden seems to be his attitude toward cryptocurrencies. Biden appears to be in favor of crypto, and a recent tweet praising the artist Beeple was somewhat surprising.

On June 5, Beeple tweeted a piece of art that depicted a smiling Hunter Biden carrying Bitcoin on his back. Bitcoin true believer Michael Saylor and Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin are also pictured, being carried by Hunter, who’s wearing a “Biden 2028” pin.

Hunter quote-tweeted the image and included a message: “Thanks @beeple, I’ve been a fan of your art for a long time. This is my new favorite.”

Biden continued: “When I decided to sell my art I wanted every piece on the blockchain and to accept Bitcoin as payment. ‘The Internet of Money’ by Andreas Antonopoulos really opened my eyes.”

Thanks @beeple, I’ve been a fan of your art for a long time. This is my new favorite.

“ngl, me and Hunter Biden being best friends was not on my 2026 bingo card,” Beeple tweeted.

It’s an odd thing to witness in real time, for sure. The crypto space has been dominated by right-wing sentiment for years, becoming cemented in President Donald Trump’s second term as a solidly MAGA hobby.

In another tweet, Biden responded to a pro-NFT account that suggested he was going to run for president. Biden replied, “Would you help with the crypto vote?” To which the NFT account asked, “what’s your stance on crypto and how are you going to fight elizabeth warren’s anti-crypto army?”

Biden responded with just one word: “Hyperliquid.”

Hyperliquid is a crypto trading platform, and it’s unclear if Biden was compensated for promoting the brand. But the one-word tweet certainly caught the attention of crypto fans. It has 1.8 million views at the time of this writing.

Hunter’s tweets have gotten attention from across the political spectrum because he’s not afraid of talking about his history of drug addiction and recovery in a sometimes humorous way. In one exchange from June 4, Hunter became upset that someone posted an image of him smoking a meth pipe instead of a crack pipe, his drug of choice.

“A crack pipe doesn’t have that little bowl at the end. This is why we can’t trust AI. Please make the appropriate edit. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Biden joked.

I know this may sound petty, but I can’t stand it when people put photoshop a meth pipe in my mouth. A crack pipe doesn’t have that little bowl at the end. This is why we can’t trust AI. Please make the appropriate edit. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was recently asked about Biden’s plans, suggesting he might be mulling a run for office. The Democratic congresswoman from New York called him a “compelling advocate on addiction and recovery,” and said, “whether he considers public office or not,” there are “many ways to contribute to change in this country.”

While Biden expressed some skepticism about AI, many people wondered if he was using it to create his tweets recently. One tweet in particular, which started with “Things the recovery industry will not tell you,” had a distinctly AI-generated quality.

Things the recovery industry will not tell you:

1. The drug worked. That is why people use it. Not weakness. Not moral failure.
A neurological event so complete and persuasive that any honest account of addiction has to start there.
The problem is not that the drug fails. The…

Some users ran Hunter’s tweets through an AI-detection checker, but those are imperfect at best, and it’s still unclear whether AI was used to create any of them.

But in another tweet, Biden expressed support for AI, writing, “AI is like my new best friend that also might be trying to take my job, my ability to think for myself, and my humanity in the process. Yo like I love you, but WTF, but I still love you.”

“Yo like I love you, but WTF, but I still love you,” doesn’t sound like AI, so it’s entirely possible that he’s just Hunter Biden, liberal crypto lover.

One of his most recent tweets noted that his haters were surprised that he’s engaging on X. “If I am anything, I am prolific,” Biden wrote, concluding that he was engaging “Finally on my terms. Not yours.”
