Even those who’d actually watched Stranger Things: The First Shadow were surprised by how important the spin-off stage play ended up being to the final season of the Netflix series. Fortunately, some of those diehards took to the internet to fill in the blanks for people who wondered exactly what that “briefcase in the mine shaft” scene was all about. If you want to get your own point of view on The First Shadow, you’d better act fast: closing dates have been announced for both Broadway and London.
According to Variety, the show will wrap up December 27 at the Phoenix Theater in London’s West End; its final show at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre will be January 3, 2027. At the time of closing, the show “will have run for over three years in London and for a little more than a year and a half on Broadway.” It also picked up four Tony Awards.
“In 1959 Hawkins, Indiana, the Creel family seeks a fresh start, especially their teenage son Henry, who is eager to escape his troubled past. Initially, things go well—he finds friendship and joins the school play,” reads the official Netflix synopsis for The First Shadow. “But when a wave of shocking crimes strikes the town, Henry is forced to confront a terrifying truth: is there something inside him that connects him to the horrors unfolding around him?
As this thrilling mystery races forward, shadows of the past are unleashed, relationships are tested, and the town of Hawkins faces the ultimate question: can the power of friendship outshine the darkness within?”
Completists already knew this, but Stranger Things: The First Shadow also has its own documentary streaming on Netflix, which is also where you can watch all six seasons of Stranger Things, the Stranger Things finale documentary, and the Stranger Things animated series.
