Samsung’s Smart Glasses Could Team Up With Its Rings and Watches

Samsung’s first pair of smart glasses aren’t even out yet, but we just got a big hint about how they work.

The clue comes courtesy of SammyGuru, which was able to get its hands on a companion app for the Galaxy Glasses and explore some of its features. The app, for context, will be used to pair the glasses and control features once they’re released, much like the Meta AI app does for Ray-Ban and Meta-branded AI glasses.

While there are some smaller details buried in the app, like what the case for the Galaxy Glasses will look like and how the setup process will work, what really caught my attention was planned integration with Samsung’s other wearables, which is something Samsung has not mentioned yet.

Specifically, it looks like Samsung’s smart glasses may have compatibility with both Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and its Galaxy smartwatches. There’s some evidence, based on code seen by SammyGuru, that the Galaxy Ring could enable gesture controls. What those controls will be exactly is still TBD, but if it’s anything like other smart glasses I’ve used with smart ring integrations, it could open a host of possibilities. Maybe you can control photo and video capture, volume, or launch music and answer calls? Hard to say, but the options are wide.

There is precedent for smart rings and smartwatches being coupled together. Smart glasses like Even Realities Even G2 already take advantage of the dual-wearable, ring-and-smartwatch combo to a pretty high degree of success by letting people use an additional ring as a controller for the UI inside the glasses’ display. So I’m cautiously optimistic here.

As for a Galaxy Watch tie-in, the possibilities are equally as vast, though we’ve yet to see a pair of smart glasses coupled with a smartwatch, so it’s hard to say what the Galaxy Watch may have to offer here. Maybe some kind of additional viewfinder for pictures that shows up on the screen? Or a more readily accessible way to import photos with a button push that doesn’t rely on your phone? Let’s not forget that both of these gadgets have myriad health features, so I’d be surprised if Samsung didn’t find a way to join those together, too.

All may be revealed soon. Samsung is expected to hold its summer Unpacked event in July, which means its smart glasses may finally take one step closer to launch.
