Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift has been in the works for years at Universal Studios Hollywood, but the roller coaster only started live testing in recent weeks. io9’s Germain Lussier got a chance to check it out during its rehearsal period, and he deemed it well worth the wait. He also noted that the coaster’s mechanics were remarkably quiet, even if the shrieks of delighted riders were still loud enough to rankle people living within earshot of the theme park.

Universal took note of the complaints; on social media, it said it would be installing additional sound barriers to help mitigate the noise. And now, an official opening date for Hollywood Drift is finally in the books: according to the Wrap, guests can start living out their Vin Diesel dreams starting September 16.

“Feel the rush of adrenaline on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the first-ever, high-speed outdoor roller coaster coming to Universal Studios Hollywood,” reads the park’s website, which is also where you can go to find out about tickets.

“Featuring a groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual vehicles that creates a seamless sensation of drifting cars in motion at speeds up to 72 mph, this ride will let you experience the heart-pounding thrill of the Fast & Furious universe like never before.”

Frankly, you can imagine why screaming is probably inevitable in that context. Universal Studios Florida will be getting its own version in 2027, but if you’re a Fast and Furious fan, Universal Studios Hollywood is clearly the destination if you want to hit the ride alongside the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

And there’s even more for adrenaline junkies to look forward to: Fast Forever, the long-gestating next film in the series, is due March 17, 2028.
