A ground stop affected American Airlines on Tuesday, bringing all flights that had not already taken off to a halt. ABC News said the issue was an “IT outage,” according to an FAA advisory they had viewed.

In an X post, American Airlines said on Tuesday evening that the IT outage was starting to be resolved, and that at least some flights were taking off again. The airline stated:

“A technology issue briefly impacted connectivity for some of our systems on Tuesday evening. Systems are coming back online now and flights are departing again. We put a temporary ground stop in place while our teams worked to resolve the issue. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

Anecdotal reports on social media are predictably annoyed as of Tuesday evening. Being stuck on the tarmac was a common theme.

This is a developing story. Gizmodo reached out to American Airlines for updates, but did not immediately hear back.
