The New ‘Crystal Lake’ Trailer Promises Plenty of Summer Camp Death and Miasma

Crystal Lake is just over a month away, and Peacock is here on, uh, Sunday the 13th with a new trailer. It delivers a deeper look at Linda Cardellini’s Pam Voorhees as her motherly grief and rage begin to escalate to machete-toting levels.

“A prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, the series follows single mother Pam Voorhees, who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before,” reads the official description. We’re told that the year of Jason’s death is 1971, so we’ll just overlook the fact that “Don’t Fear the Reaper” didn’t release until 1976.

“When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?”

It looks like Pam’s main concern will be “Where is Jason’s body?”—something that will reverberate throughout the Friday the 13th series as her supernaturally empowered son keeps rising back to life in sequel after sequel. Her secretive past also looks to be an intriguing mystery, and we’re curious to learn more about the year-round denizens of summer destination Crystal Lake.

Peacock also released some new images, including one of Pam looking especially gruesome.

Crystal Lake comes from studio A24 and creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry). Dividing up directing duties are Michael Lennox, Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran.

Along with Cardellini, the main cast includes William Catlett (Black Lightning), Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom; the recurring cast includes Callum Vinson (a veteran of Chucky; he plays the young Jason Voorhees), Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik.
