It’s a dilemma familiar to any TV showrunner with kids in the cast: the inevitable march of time. Stranger Things recently dealt with this, and now there’s another popular series with a child star in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. By way of comparison, Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Egg, is 11—just a year younger than Millie Bobby Brown was when Stranger Things began. But fear not, fans of the tiny bald squire; A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms creator Ira Parker already has a long-range plan in place for the character.

First things first: Parker would never consider recasting Egg, so he’s hoping to film as many installments as possible while Ansell is still a tween. (So far, HBO has only greenlit A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season, which is now in production.) Speaking to Decider, Parker said his dream is to adapt George R.R. Martin’s tales featuring the young Egg—there’s one more of the three published Tales of Dunk and Egg, plus there are notes and outlines for additional stories that Martin hopes to finish and has shared with Parker.

“What I would love to do: George has five stories of sort of Egg the boy, which is, I think, a nice thing to do right now while Dexter is still young and his voice is, you know, squeaky,” Parker told Decider.

“At the end of that fifth one, he sort of becomes the prince again,” Parker said, referring to Egg’s identity as a Targaryen.

Then, Parker continued, there’d be more to explore after that. “The next couple would take place in a different [setting]. Not just on the road, but in a place like Summerhall or a place like King’s Landing. That’s the middle section of if. Of course, the last [section] is Egg the king.”

The amount of time this would take (“None of this has been discussed with HBO,” Parker noted) could potentially span years; Egg doesn’t make it to the Iron Throne until he’s in his 30s. Parker, again, has thought this through.

“I want [Ansell and Peter Claffey, who plays Dunk] to go and have their careers, and I would love to come back every now and then and just do one or two more in the middle of their lives,” Parker explained.

Hey, we’d stick around and watch that! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season two is slated to arrive on HBO in 2027.
