Brand New Day’ Trailer Takes Us Back in Time

Sony just released a “final trailer” for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and while it’s light on new footage, it’s heavy on emotion. With just under two weeks to go until the fourth film in the series hits theaters, the trailer is primarily comprised of footage from the previous three installments to remind us how we got here and what’s at stake. It really, really works.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes place a few years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Peter Parker (Tom Holland) had to make the world forget he was Spider-Man. This most directly impacted his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). This trailer reminds us of the friendships those three shared, how Peter is handling it now, and teases how it might all play out in the film.

There is some new footage in there, of course. Most interestingly is the idea that the film’s likely villain, played by Sadie Sink, can potentially appear as other people. So when we see Michael Mando as Scorpion, who first appeared way back in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it might not actually be him. The distinction between Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Hulk is murkier but lends itself to this idea too. What is Sink’s power and who, exactly, is she?

More than that, will Peter be able to rekindle his friendships and romance with Ned and MJ? How is that going to work? And then, how the heck does all of this line up with the events in those other Marvel movies coming in the future: Avengers: Doomsday this year, and Avengers: Secret Wars next year?

The good news is we won’t have to wait long to find out. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters next week. We’ll have a review and much more then. Are you excited?
