Odds are if you are reading this site, or any site on the internet, you are excited for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The Oscar-winning filmmaker’s follow-up to Oppenheimer promises to be his biggest film yet, which is saying something when you’ve also made The Dark Knight, Interstellar, Inception, and others. Plus, The Odyssey is the first feature film ever shot entirely on 70mm IMAX, and demand to see it has already proven to be through the roof.

So how could someone possibly get even more excited? The trailers have slowly revealed just how gargantuan the film will be, and its cast (Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, just to name a few) speaks to that as well. But in this new video, all of that comes together in an incredible way. It shows the frankly mind-blowing lengths Nolan went to to bring the film to life, which sells the movie better than any trailer could.

The only thing that could have made that video any better is if it had been set to Coolio’s “Fantastic Voyage,” but maybe that’s just me.

In all seriousness, that video can be described as “Wow.” We could see from the trailers just how diverse and huge The Odyssey was, but actually seeing the actors walk up those hills, the ropes that were installed for safety, and the lighting inside the cave reinforces that this is superhuman stuff. Things that bring to mind practical epics of that past like Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, or The Bridge on the River Kwai. It’s filmmaking that Hollywood has long since given up on, just because it’s expensive. But, when you’ve made billion-dollar hit after billion-dollar hit, you get a bit more leverage.

We’ll see how this all plays out when The Odyssey comes to theaters on July 17. Do you have your tickets yet?
