Merkury Innovations Hot + Cool Heating and Cooling Fans have been recalled after two reports of the fans catching on fire, according to an announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The fans are bladeless and come with the model number MI-DHC02, according to the product safety agency. The model number can be found on a white label at the bottom of the product or on the packaging that it came in.

The company has received two reports of the fans catching fire, along with one fan that caused smoke damage to property, but no injuries have been reported so far.

The fans were sold nationwide at stores like TJMaxx, Marshalls and Sierra from October 2024 until October 2025 and retailed for about $30. The fans were manufactured in China.

Anyone who purchased one is being encouraged to stop using them immediately, making sure to unplug them. Consumers should visit https://merkuryinnovations.com/pages/fanrecall, which contains instructions on how to get a refund.

The steps for getting a refund involve the consumer using a permanent market to write their own initials on the fan. Consumers will also be asked to write today’s date on the fan, as well as the word “recalled.”

Then consumers will be asked to take a clear photo of the fan with all of those words and dates written on it. Consumers will also be asked to cut the power cord with a scissors and take a clear photo of the severed power cord. The last step involves completing the registration form at https://merkuryinnovations.com/pages/fanrecall.

Consumers will be told not to dispose of the fan until they receive an email saying their registration was successful. The company warns that some consumers may be asked to return the fan, but others will be given instructions on how to properly dispose of the fan.

Merkury Innovations makes other products, like bladeless handheld fans, wireless earbuds, and light therapy lamps, though none of those products are involved in this recall. The company also makes things like Apple Watch bands, USB cables and smartphone cases.

It doesn’t appear as though the  Hot + Cool Heating and Cooling Fan was available on the Merkury Innovations website in 2024 or 2025, according to the Wayback Machine, though the reason is unclear. The company didn’t immediately respond to questions Wednesday. Gizmodo will update this article if we hear back.
