In case you haven’t watched the Widow’s Bay finale yet, beware! Mayor Tom (Matthew Rhys) discovers a game-changing detail about his teenage son, Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick), that is going to make the show’s second season especially perilous for their family. You know, even beyond the island’s usual array of sea hags, murder clowns, masked killers, apocalyptic storms, and the like.

In “We Hope You Enjoyed Your Time!” viewers learned that Evan is the youngest living descendant of Richard Warren, who founded the island’s first settlement. Ruth (K Callan), the elderly woman that Tom thought was the end of Warren’s bloodline, secretly had a daughter—Tom’s late wife, who died a few years after Evan was born.

That means as long as Evan is alive, the island will remain cursed. Part of that curse is that if you were born on the island, you can never leave. Another part is that the island is prone to monster attacks. And yet another part is that the island demands human sacrifices whenever it wakes up hungry.

It goes without saying that Tom will do everything he can to keep Evan safe, which he was already obsessed with doing even before he knew about Evan’s ties to Richard Warren. He may need to step that up in season two if anyone else on the island finds out the truth. But you have to suspect the island itself won’t pose any danger to Evan; it needs him to stick around, after all.

Still, Southwick has high hopes we’ll see his character tangling with more frights in season two.

“I love the horror part of it, and I don’t think Evan got to do as many horror scenes or have as many things happen to him,” he told Deadline. “So, I’m really manifesting that in season two there are different scary situations and that Evan gets put into some pretty crazy and pretty scary circumstances […] I really want to do more horror, and I’m excited to see what [creator Katie Dippold and director Hiro Murai] have in mind.”

Southwick expressed a similar sentiment while speaking with Esquire. “Season two is going to have a lot more Evan in it. It’s fun because I really want to do more horror stuff in the show—like me experiencing the horror. I’m just excited. I know that I’m in good hands. I keep calling [Dippold] like, ‘Tell me what’s going to happen!’ I think they’re going to start the writer’s room soon.”

You can watch all of Widow’s Bay season one on Apple TV now.
