The ‘Masters of the Universe’ Score Sounds Good as Hell

If you’re looking forward to Masters of the Universe, it sounds like it’ll have music worth hearing after you’ve left the theater.

On Friday, the film’s composer Daniel Pemberton released two versions of the song “Eternia” from the film’s score. The end credits version is a little longer and opens with guitar strings instead of a chorus, but they both build to something that’s pretty great when it gets going. It feels right at home with the science fantasy vibes the trailers have been giving, and if you liked Mark Mothersbaugh’s Thor Ragnarok score (or remember it), what Pemberton’s doing here seems to channel some of that.

But you might also like it because Brian May’s teaming with Pemberton on the score. The former Queen guitarist shreds in both versions of “Eternia,” which might be a selling point in and of itself. In the same way Disney put Nine Inch Nails all over Tron: Ares, it probably wouldn’t hurt MGM to put further eyes on Masters of the Universe and its music. After all, people love Queen, and Pemberton’s turned in great scores—in fact, given how popular Project Hail Mary’s been the past two months, why not highlight that the two movies share a composer?

In any case, Masters of the Universe hits theaters on June 5, with its full score hitting music platforms around the film’s release.
