The Director of ‘Godzilla Minus One’ Is Working on a Mystery Movie With Ridley Scott

We don’t know much about the newly announced sci-fi project from Takashi Yamazaki, but we know enough to be very excited. The busy director of Godzilla Minus One and the upcoming Godzilla Minus Zero will team with Ridley Scott’s production company, Scott Free, on a film called Nue.

This is not to be confused with Yamakazi’s previously announced Grandgear—his first English-language movie—which is produced by J.J. Abrams and is coming to theaters in February 2028. io9’s Germain Lussier got an early peek at that film earlier this year at CinemaCon and reported the thrilling news that it involves giant robots, which we cannot wait to see for ourselves.

Nue is an entirely new project; as Deadline notes, “plot details are being kept under wraps.” However, since “nue” refers to an entity from Japanese folklore with body parts representative of multiple animals (its depictions vary, but imagine a combination of monkey, tiger, dog, and snake), we could be getting a creature feature produced by the guy who made Alien and Blade Runner and directed by the guy who brought exciting new energy to the king of all kaiju.

Speaking of, the sequel to Yamazaki’s Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla Minus Zero, hits theaters in November. Ridley Scott, meanwhile, has his own latest sci-fi tale, The Dog Stars, opening in August.
