Nothing’s New Budget Phone Is Making a Bold Camera Choice

Nothing has an incoming budget phone, and, as usual, the company is making some bold choices. While we don’t have an official name yet, Nothing confirmed that its new device will have “B” branding as opposed to “A” branding, which was previously the only moniker that denoted a device priced below its flagship models.

From the sounds of it, the Nothing Phone 4b will enter an even more budget-focused segment than the A-series, which offered many flagship features at a midrange price. Here’s how Nothing cofounder and Nothing India President Akis Evangelidis put it on Monday: “The B Series builds on the success of the A Series by expanding into a new segment, while maintaining a clear product hierarchy. The A Series remains our most premium line below our flagship products.”

To me, it sounds like Nothing is continuing to make its A-series phones, especially since Evangelidis goes on to call the move an “expansion” rather than a replacement.

That being said, not everything about the new phone appears to be additive. Given the price point, Nothing is naturally making some cuts. One of those cuts will reduce the number of rear-facing camera sensors from three on the Phone 4a and 4a Pro to just one on its new budget-focused device. Obviously, for people who really care about having the best camera, that’s going to be a dealbreaker, but for anyone seeking the cheapest possible phone, it could be a selling point.

Outside of that, there’s not a ton of official info on what to expect from a B-branded Nothing phone, though a teaser showing someone sketching the back of the device hints at a design similar to the Phone 3a’s.

If you’re a fan of Nothing handsets, you probably still have quite a few questions. Will the 4b have glyph lights? How old is its chip? Where exactly will it be sold? That’s all TBD right now, unfortunately, but I’m willing to wager that we’ll find out fairly soon.
