Bad news: Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew isn’t coming out this year. Good news? When it does come out, it’ll get the full theatrical treatment.

On Friday, Netflix announced the film will hit theaters on February 12, 2027. One big question around Narnia has been how long its previously announced big-screen run was going to be. Frankenstein and Wake Up Dead Man had limited runs, but the streamer’s been wanting to get more chummy with cinemas. With this deal, audiences get nearly two months to watch Narnia theatrically before it comes home on April 2.

Beyond the date, Netflix also confirmed the main cast for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. Previously announced stars Emma Mackey and Meryl Streep are joined by David McKenna, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough, and Susan Wokoma. Adapting the sixth book of the same name, the film is a prequel to the Narnia story that includes the world’s creation and early history.

“Working with Netflix to bring this film to life has been extraordinary and IMAX continues to be an incredible partner,” said Gerwig. “I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life. A universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart, and it’s the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being.”

We’ll have more on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew as news emerges ahead of its release in both IMAX and regular theaters February 12, 2027.
