The Old Republic Reigns Supreme in Hasbro’s New ‘Star Wars’ Figures

We’ve frequently said that Hasbro’s Star Wars ‘Gaming Greats’ line of action figures is quietly home to some of the best toys around in the galaxy far, far away. The line’s come a long way away from simple repaints to give us great new figures of beloved classic characters we never thought would see the light of action-figure day—and this Star Wars Day, that feeling isn’t changing any time soon.

As part of a major livestream today sharing goodies to celebrate Star Wars‘ early May holiday, Hasbro revealed a ton of new figures coming from across the galaxy far, far away and to our shelves in the near future. You would think, perhaps, with The Mandalorian and Grogu just weeks away, we’d be seeing plenty from the new film, but instead, the real surprise was how often Hasbro threw us back to the past.

He made his Black Series debut a few years ago, but Hasbro marked the Heir to the Empire trilogy’s anniversary with the reveal of a 3.75″ Luuke Skywalker (you read that right, back from the time when an extra letter hinted at a clone identity!) for the Vintage Collection, and he’ll be joined by Anakin Skywalker’s Force ghost, as played originally by Sebastian Shaw in Return of the Jedi, in the line. Even better yet, the toymaker also showed off a killer new two-pack for the line set to debut exclusively at SDCC this year: a recreation of Anakin Skywalker and Asajj Ventress’ duel on Yavin IV as seen in the legendary Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars microseries.

The Black Series, meanwhile, brought with it a trio of clones—Target-exclusive Commanders Doom and Thorn from The Clone Wars, as well as a standard Clone Commando inspired by their appearance in the show—and kept the train going with Black Series’ own SDCC exclusive, a set containing a 501st ARF Trooper and a matching AT-RT, a rare vehicle for the 6-inch line. But saved the big surprise for a full-on gaming blast from the past, all the way back to the time of the Old Republic.

From Knights of the Old Republic, we got two more party members in the form of a pack containing young Twi’lek rogue Mission Vao (who can finally be reunited with her buddy Zaalbar, who was one of the earliest surprise KOTOR Gaming Greats figures back in 2021) and Republic officer Carth Onasi. But that wasn’t all: two surprise standalone releases brought us a bit forward in time to the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, with new figures of Satele Shan, the grand master of the Jedi Order and the descendant of KOTOR‘s Bastila Shan, as well as a generic Republic trooper ripped right out of the game.

It’s very cool to see Hasbro keep the Old Republic games alive in this way while we wait and see whatever happened to the Knights of the Old Republic remake (and the rumors of its incredible sequel, The Sith Lords, getting one too). Hopefully we won’t have to be waiting too much longer to see even more figures from the era—not only does the first game’s party still need finishing off, but now that we’re getting a Darth Traya, we absolutely need Kreia and the rest of the motley crew from The Sith Lords too.

Aside from the SDCC exclusives—which will be available at the con in a few months and then shortly after online in limited quantities—all these figures and more revealed today will go live for sale at 1:00 p.m. ET next Monday, on May 4 itself, at Hasbro Pulse and other retailers.
