It’s the beginning of May, which can mean only one thing: Star Wars Day is nearly upon us. It’s a wonderful time of the year for the galaxy far, far away, as we get ready for a new movie, and plenty more to celebrate on the horizon—but if you’re looking for recommendations on what to get the Star Wars fans in your life so you can let them know you love them (they know), here’s our choices for books, games, toys, and plenty more surprises to make your own galaxy one with the Force.
Gifts Up to $20
Grogu ‘Nilla Nummies’ Wafers ($5)
The Child prefers his snacks to be either blue or frog-shaped, and thankfully Nilla Wafers settled on the former for this novelty, limited-time variation released for The Mandalorian and Grogu. The cookies are the same size, shape, and flavor as the classic, but are a color so startling you might not want to use them in your banana pudding.
Star Wars Unlimited Intro Battle Hoth Starter Set ($15)
Asmodee’s Star Wars trading card game has gone from strength to strength since it launched just a few years ago, and this self-contained introduction to the game packs a flavorful introduction to its mechanics as the Rebels square off against the Empire on Hoth. Can you strategize and turn the tide in the Alliance’s favor, or will Darth Vader crush the rebels in Hoth’s frozen wastes?
The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire ($17)
There isn’t really another book in recent Star Wars memory like Rise and Fall. Doctor Chris Kempshall’s in-universe examination of what led to the Galactic Empire, and the systems that held it in place for decades, treats the galaxy far, far away as if it were real events,, asking us to examine the politics that go into committing the events of the world, fictional or otherwise, to history.
Gifts Between $20 and $30
BARK Mandalorian and Grogu Pet Hoodie ($22)
Considering how many dogs already resemble Yoda (the pointy ears!) and behave like Grogu (stealing your snacks whenever they can), you can further the comparison with this cute pet hoodie. It’s soft, machine-washable, and comes in different sizes to fit your household’s four-legged Force user. There’s even a leash hole to add a little extra sci-fi flair to your walks.
Star Wars Visions Volume 1 and 2 ($22)
Arguably, one of the best things to happen to both Star Wars and anime is Star Wars: Visions. Not only did it mark the return of the lost art of the anthology series, but it also shifted the camera away from the “disaster lineage” to give fans a glimpse of what the rest of the vast galaxy is up to. What’s more, it brought together an elite concentration of acclaimed and lesser-known animation studios, realizing Star Wars in a way we haven’t seen since Disney put the kibosh on mentioning the Expanded Universe. Also, anime and physical media rule.
Star Wars: Galactic Drinks ($28)
Food writer Jenn Fujikawa—co-author of Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook—returns to the galaxy far, far away for this new collection of 65 recipes for cocktails, mocktails, and other themed beverages for your at-home cantina. We’re here for the bright blue “Syril’s Cereal Milkshake,” a blend of ice cream, cereal, frosting, and (presumably) alarmingly misplaced ambitions.
Gifts Between $30 and $40
Hasbro Star Wars The Black Series The Mandalorian and Grogu ($35)
The Mandalorian and Grogu is just around the corner, and there’s no better way to represent it on your toy shelf or at your desk than with Hasbro’s latest take on Din Djarin and his ward. Including a bunch of accessories inspired by the new film, the 6-inch figure even includes a new Grogu designed so he can be perched on Mando’s shoulder.
Craig Drake’s Star Wars Art ($35 and up)
If the Star Wars art of Craig Drake looks familiar, it’s because Drake used to work for Lucasfilm. He’s done numerous pieces for the company in the past and though many, many of his Star Wars pieces have sold out in the years since, a few are still available via the Hero Complex Gallery. There’s Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Padme, and more. But our favorite that’s still around is this awesome image of Luke, Obi-Wan, and the droids zipping across Tatooine in a Landspeeder.
The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte ($38)
See what went into making the world of one of Star Wars’ most-misunderstood stories of the modern age with this deep dive into behind-the-scenes on The Acolyte—and wonder what could’ve been if the show had been allowed to continue beyond its first season.
Regal Robot Mythosaur Skull Mini Sculpture ($40)
If you’re looking for Star Wars gifts, you can really buy almost anything off the Regal Robot site and be happy. But they also specialize in creatures and busts and since we are in love with the Mandalorian mythology of the Mythosaur, we can think of nothing better than this sculpture to capture that wonderful Star Wars mystery.
Gifts Between $40 and $50
3D Printed Han Solo Blaster ($40 and up)
3D printers have truly changed the collecting game. It used to be that, if we wanted to run around like Han Solo, blasting Stormtroopers on the Death Star, we’d have to wait for a toy company to make a version, or a high-end collectible company to painstakingly recreate it. Now, we have fans who split the middle beautifully, meticulously researching props like Han’s blaster and making it available to fans for a very reasonable price (depending on the scale you go for, that is).
J.W. Rinzler’s Original Trilogy Making of Books ($47 and up)
The world would be a very different place if George Lucas hadn’t created Star Wars. And for those of us who weren’t standing by his side during the process, the late J.W. Rinzler wrote the definitive book about the making of the original film, filled with images and revelations that make even the biggest Star Wars fans gasp. It’s truly an amazing piece of work. And then, he did the same thing for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. These are must-haves for any Star Wars fan.
The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope–The Manga ($50)
If you sat down and wondered, “Boy howdy, I really love me some Star Wars. I wish there was a way to enjoy it the same way I do manga,” you’re in luck. Not only is there one, but two art books reimagining your favorite franchise in the illustrious world of Hisao Tamaki’s retro art style. The art book includes the original manuscripts for Tamaki’s 1997 Star Wars manga adaptation of A New Hope, sure to impress your friends as eye candy on your coffee table and give you the sweet bliss of experiencing a galaxy far, far away in a whole different medium.
Gifts Over $50
Lego Star Wars Brick-Built Logo ($60)
There’s a lot of Star Wars Lego out there, from lavish playsets to massive vehicles, but sometimes simplicity is a boon, as is definitely the case in this wonderful brick-built replica of the iconic Star Wars logo—it’s perfect for display, and even has a few Easter eggs hidden in its building process to pay homage to the events of the films.
Millennium Falcon Desk Light ($60)
Finding the perfect balance of practicality and cool factor is a Goldilocks scenario, especially for Star Wars merch. If you need the angel and devil on your wallet’s folds to come to an agreement on you deserving a little treat for yourself that you’ll get your use out of every day, we wouldn’t grieve you for copping the Millennium Falcon desk light. Han’s ship is rad as hell, and being in the dark sucks on multiple levels, so why not take care of your need for a figurine of the Falcon and luminosity in one fell swoop? Your eyes will thank you in more ways than one.
Jedi Knight Revan Deluxe Helmet ($80)
We’re still waiting for whatever happened to the Knights of the Old Republic remake to come to light, but that’s not stopped Revan from becoming more powerful than Star Wars could ever imagine: as an enduringly lucrative merchandising opportunity. This life-sized helmet is based on Revan’s knightly appearance before they fell to the dark side, seen in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.
BarkBox Mythosaur Pet Toy ($100)
Will we ever see Din Djarin tame the Mythosaur at the center of Mandalore? We don’t know. But now, you can at least let your dog have some fun with the Star Wars creature made famous as an insignia worn by Boba Fett. And to be honest, that might be even more delightful to watch.
