DC’s Deathstroke and Bane Movie May Have Its Director

You may have forgotten, but in 2024, Warner Bros. announced a movie starring Batman villains Deathstroke and Bane. Between then and now, the studio’s been mum on it, but the project still lives and may be gaining some momentum.

We say “may” because according to Deadline, Greg Mottola is a frontrunner for directing duties. Mottola’s credits include Paul and Confess, Fletch, but he’s more recently directed two episodes of Peacemaker. That may give him a distinct edge over “others” being looked at, but Deadline didn’t say who else was in the running. Currently, the film’s still in its infancy, to the point a script hasn’t been turned in and no contracts have been drawn up. At time of writing, there’s also no one who seems a likely lock to play either of the two villains. (Obviously.)

On the big screen, only Bane has had any real screentime in Hollywood thanks to Batman & Robin and The Dark Knight Rises. Deathstroke’s cinematic potential was seemingly cut off when the DCEU died, but both of them have regularly appeared in TV and video games. Bane will appear in WB Animation’s upcoming take on the Knightfall storyline that introduced him, and Deathstroke’s been a recurring player in Arrow, Young Justice, and direct-to-video movies.

Deathstroke and Bane, whenever this movie lands, will be the latest DC baddies to headline their own feature. Ahead of them is Clayface in September, which should hopefully get fans excited to see what’s in store for these two… plus whoever is eventually brought on to be Batman.
