Christopher Nolan’s New ‘Odyssey’ Trailer Is Absolutely Massive

A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is here, and what’s that sound? A trailer of this scale and scope deserves a slow, methodical drum beat way off in the distance. But it continues and continues and gets louder and louder, and then, when it’s right in your face, you press play. That somehow feels like the best way to watch what the Oscar-winning director has in store for us come July 17.

Or, you know, you can just watch it now without all the fanfare. Whatever works for you.

In The Odyssey, Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, a great Greek leader who is trying to find his way home after the Trojan War. But it will not be a simple task to see his wife, Penelope (Anne Hathaway), and son Telemachus (Tom Holland). No, Odysseus will go on quite the epic adventure and, along the way, cross paths with characters played by Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and many more. Beat those drums; here’s the new trailer.

Though we saw our first teaser for The Odyssey almost a year ago, Christopher Nolan and his team have been relatively careful with what to reveal from the film. That first glimpse, which came out with Jurassic World Rebirth, only had a few shots. Later, we got to see about seven minutes from a flashback in the film of the Trojan Horse being brought into the city of Troy. But, for the most part, those had to be seen in theaters. The online trailer didn’t arrive until December, five months after that first teaser, and now, five months after that, we have this.

Certainly, this has way more than we’ve seen to date and looks beyond massive and awesome. And yet, knowing how careful Nolan is with marketing, we have a feeling this is just scratching the surface.

The Odyssey, our most anticipated film of the summer, opens on July 17. What do you think of the trailer?
