Zorro returns when we need him most. Lars Eidinger gets heavy about Man of Tomorrow. Hope finally confirms itself to be a monster movie. The new Mystery Science Theater 3000 involves olive loaf. I think its time we blow this scene—get everybody and the stuff together. Okay, three, two, one: It’s Morning Spoilers!

They Call Him Zorro

Deadline reports Joe Begos (Christmas Bloody Christmas, Jimmy and Stiggs) is attached to direct a violent, potentially supernatural take on Zorro said to “draw on the original writings of Johnston McCulley, who first introduced Zorro in his 1919 novel The Curse of Capistrano, but through a horror lens.” The synopsis reads: “When Diego Vega is framed by a group of dirty city officials for a crime he didn’t commit, he escapes from prison and starts a relentless no-holds barred vengeance on corruption and crime in present day Los Angeles. The media quickly finds a name for the masked vigilante riding a black El Camino armed with chains, machetes, electric saws, and a sawed-off shotgun: Zorro.”

Carry Me to My Grave

Deadline also has word Francis Lawrence (The Long Walk, The Hunger Games) is attached to direct a film adaptation of Christopher Golden‘s upcoming supernatural horror novel, Carry Me to My Grave, at Lionsgate.

The Blair Witch

Deadline reports the new Blair Witch will “deal with a family that goes on a camping trip but goes missing one by one after they hear strange noises in the forest.”

Man of Tomorrow

In a recent interview with THR, Lars Eidinger, who will play Brainiac in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, briefly touched on the films’ “philosophical ambition” and “great allegorical weight.”

It’s not as different as you might think. Even if it seems surprising at first, these films have a serious philosophical ambition. They carry great allegorical weight for me. Take just the word “super” — it’s used as a superlative, for something excellent, wonderful. But “super” really only means “over” or “above.” So Superman is the Übermensch. You have the Super Ego. There’s already a deep psychological dimension built in.

Last week I was on set during rehearsals and asked if I could watch some of the filming, which had already started. And I saw an actor in the Superman costume, suspended on wires in front of a bluescreen. I looked at that image and thought: This is the essence of fiction. It’s as significant an image as Hamlet holding the skull: Superman, in that Superman pose, hanging from wires in front of a bluescreen.

Being in the Superman universe wasn’t a dream or burning desire for me. But now that it’s happening, I can see a certain inevitability in it, something almost fated.

Lanterns

James Gunn promised a new Lanterns trailer sometime later today in a recent Instagram post.

The Vampire Lestat

As noted by Bloody-Disgusting, a new track from The Vampire Lestat titled “Butterscotch Bitch” is now available to stream on Spotify.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Rifftrax Experiments

The latest behind-the-scenes video from Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Rifftrax Experiments sees the new Satellite of Love set under construction. However, no explanation is given for the elf with the olive loaf.

The Boys

Finally, Butcher promises “shock and awe, blood and bone” in the trailer for this week’s series finale of The Boys.
