Hokum didn’t set the box office on fire like Obsession and Backrooms currently are, but the movie is still one of 2026’s low-budget horror success stories. And if you missed it in theaters, you can soon experience its spooky wonders at home. Writer-director Damian McCarthy’s third feature (after Caveat and Oddity) stars Adam Scott as an American writer on an uncanny Irish holiday, and it arrives on digital starting tomorrow, June 2.

Physical media collectors will have to wait until August 11 for the Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD combo and DVD release, which comes with some intriguing-sounding extras. Along with feature commentary by McCarthy, who’ll surely have some fun tales of filming a movie that unfolds primarily in a single location filled with a lot of compressed spaces (including a sealed-off basement, darkened rooms, an elevator, and a dumbwaiter), there’ll be a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Hokum, as well as the short film Jack the Donkey, A Family Favorite.

If you’ve seen the movie, you’ve already glimpsed Jack in action and know his significance to Scott’s character, an author named Ohm Bauman whose successful career has hit a snag as he struggles to finish the last book in his hit trilogy. His distraction of choice is taking a trip to the hotel in rural Ireland where his late parents spent their honeymoon. He’s there to scatter their ashes, which he does before promptly getting drawn into some very distressing and extremely witchy local folklore. The hotel is home to creatures both supernatural and all too human, with a wink at The Shining, and Ohm becomes a detective of sorts while working through his own emotional demons.

Make sure, when you’re watching at home, you have the room as dark as possible to maximize Hokum‘s building dread and highly effective jump scares. You can rent or buy Hokum starting June 2 on all the usual digital platforms; the physical release follows August 11.
