Shokz is expanding its lineup of solid open-style wireless earbuds. The company just introduced the OpenDots 2 as well as the OpenDots Air, both of which are clip-style open wireless earbuds.

The $199 OpenDots 2 are the flagship pair, and according to Shokz, they emphasize added bass as well as premium sound. They have two 11.8 mm drivers and redesigned acoustics to reduce distortion. They also have “upgraded” Dolby Atmos audio over the previous generation.

On top of those audio upgrades, they come with an improved version of the company’s MirrorPitch technology, which angles the sound towards your ears instead of dispersing into the open air, as well as Bassphere 2.0, which is a Shokz-specific driver architecture meant to enhance bass and make the 11.8mm drivers sound more like 16mm drivers. The result, according to Shokz, is a pair of clip-on wireless earbuds that has solid low end (often a weak point for wireless earbuds in this style) and flagship-level sound.

Like most clip-on wireless earbuds, the battery life for the OpenDots 2 is solid, with 10 hours of life in the buds and 40 hours total charge with the case included. Long battery life is a perk of not having noise cancellation features like other non-open wireless earbuds, or noise reduction like the Shokz OpenFit Pro. Calling should be improved on the OpenDots 2, too, with Shokz adding two bone-conducting microphones that help mitigate wind noise. Colors include black, gray, and pearl white.

The OpenDots Air are a bit cheaper at $129 but still come with the same dual 11.8mm drivers. They are technically lighter than the OpenDots 2, but by a razor-thin margin. The OpenDots 2 are 6.4g and the OpenDots Air are 6.3g. I don’t think you’re going to be clocking the difference here, but maybe you’re attuned to your ears like that. While they have the same drivers as the OpenDots 2, the OpenDots Air don’t have the same upgrades to Bassphere or Dolby Atmos, and the battery life is slightly worse at 9 hours per charge, instead of 10.

One thing these wireless earbuds have that the OpenDots 2 don’t have, though, is a purple color: the OpenDots Air will be available in black and “daybreak purple.” Both pairs are available now.
