‘Futurama’ Season 14 Will Not Be a Binge Release

We loved Futurama season 13, an especially strong batch of episodes that made it feel like the long-running series was finally comfortable in its new home on Hulu. But we didn’t love the fact that it was a binge release, a first in the show’s nearly 30-year history, and a move that made the season fade from the pop culture conversation far too quickly.

Something clearly didn’t sit right behind the scenes either, because Hulu has announced that season 14 will go back to the familiar weekly release format. Starting August 3, we’ll get new episodes every week, so you can digest all the antics for several days in between. And if you prefer binging, well, you can just wait a few months and get your fix that way.

The official synopsis teases a little bit of what’s to come: “Brace yourselves… The future is about to get a whole lot stranger! It’s a non-stop onslaught of swaggering space pirates, lab-grown meats, sexy scams… plus the shocking return of Dr. Zoidberg’s lost love! You didn’t see that coming, prior to being told about it just now! It’s a thrilling, all-new season of Futurama on Hulu!”

But the first-look images are the real treat. Could this be another Steamboat Willie parody? How very The Beast With a Billion Backs!

Here are the rest of the first-look images, containing Zapp Brannigan’s fragrance journey, Bender’s dance moves, a semi-NSFW Professor Farnsworth, the promise of a Nibbler sighting, and more.

Futurama season 14 arrives Monday, August 3, on Hulu and Disney+. And, thankfully, as the press release reminds us: “New episodes will stream on Mondays.”
