A pair of YouTubers join the ensemble cast of an upcoming horror-comedy. The director of Sharknado teases his unexpected follow-up. Russell Crowe wraps filming as Ramirez on the Highlander reboot. Don’t lose your head, it’s Morning Spoilers!

Karn Evil 9

Variety reports Isaac Ezban (Párvulos, Evil Eye) is attached to direct a dystopian sci-fi movie based on the Emerson, Lake & Palmer song, “Karn Evil 9”. Written for the screen by Tim Hedrick (Avatar: The Last Airbender), the story follows Zak, “a brilliant but troubled musical prodigy,” who “is invited to perform at a major music festival simulcast in the world’s most popular video game.” However, Zak is “shocked to discover the game’s mysterious creator may be using him to promote a terrifying new technology. In a harrowing twist, our hero comes to believe that this technology may be of inestimable benefit to humanity, and he is hunted by ruthless, anti-technology mercenaries.”

Best Friends Forever

Variety also reports James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca (hosts of the popular YouTube series Dead Meat) have joined the cast of the upcoming horror-comedy Best Friends Forever from director Liz Manashil and screenwriter Amy Taylor. Co-starring Aristotle Athari, Zac Oyama, Lynley Eilers, Bobby Moynihan, Catherine Corcoran, Kimia Behpoornia, Eliza Bennett, Jessie Ennis, Aparna Nancherla, Esther Povitsky, and Rekha Shankar, the story concerns “the bachelorette party reunion of five high school friends as they become exposed to toxic positivity-turned-supernatural and begin to turn against each other. The film explores the things we don’t say and all the things we don’t show, as women, to our friends.”

Lilo & Stitch 2

THR reports original Lilo & Stitch co-creator Chris Sanders, who is also the voice of Stitch in the animated and live action versions, will direct the upcoming live-action sequel. The outlet can also confirm the sequel will be “a brand-new story” not based on the direct-to-video Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch.

Highlander

Speaking with Variety, Russell Crowe confirmed he’s wrapped filming as the new Ramirez on the Highlander reboot.

I just finished the shoot of Highlander. It’s an Amazon production, and it’s going to be fantastic. It’s by Chad Stahelski, who directed all the John Wick movies, so you know [he] is incapable of directing a film that is not exciting.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

A new synopsis for Brand New Day states (h/t ScreenRant) Spider-Man must protect New York from “a powerful villain no one can see.”

It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

Monopoly: The Movie

Deadline also has word Lionsgate, LuckyChap, and Hasbro Entertainment are partnering with two writing teams—Neil Widener & Gavin James of A Minecraft Movie, and Rebecca Angelo & Lauren Schuker Blum (Dumb Money)—to “flesh out ideas for a Monopoly movie.”

Water Park Shark

Sharknado director Anthony C. Ferrante shared the poster for his new project, Water Park Shark, on Instagram. The story involves Great White Sharks somehow “storming a Cape Cod water park,” prompting “a washed-up football star-turned-lifeguard and his ex-girlfriend police chief must uncover the shocking secret drawing in the ocean’s biggest predators before it’s too late.”

President Curtis

Finally, Adult Swim has released the first clip from its upcoming Rick and Morty spinoff, President Curtis.
