‘Widow’s Bay’ Star Reflects on How Important It Was to Shoot on Location

It’s a gloomy week indeed with no new episode of Widow’s Bay to enjoy—maybe Apple TV should have spaced out that double feature just to prolong the magic a tiny bit more. However, fans can take solace in the fact that a second season is on the way and, in the meantime, rewatch season one to pick up on any details they might have missed, particularly since Widow’s Bay was filmed in real locations that convey those New England island vibes as much as possible. For at least one cast member, that enhanced the magic on his side of the camera, too.

Kingston Rumi Southwick, who plays Evan and therefore has a hell of a ride ahead of him when the show returns, loved the production experience.

“We would shoot in these smaller sea towns outside of Boston, in people’s houses. I would talk to the owners, and they would have their own Widow’s Bay-esque stories,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “It really put you into the mindset of being in a sea town that’s haunted, so I’m glad that we shot in Massachusetts because I had never been, and the place is a very big part of the story.”

We would love to hear those Widow’s Bay-esque stories for ourselves! Where’s that making-of documentary, Apple TV?

Southwick also inadvertently brought up another mystery that went unaddressed in season one.

“You see the town and Richard Warren with his head cut off, that’s really what it looks like. You could be there today, and it’ll look basically the exact same,” Southwick said.

He’s referring to the headless Richard Warren statue that’s posted up on the main drag of Widow’s Bay. While of course we know Warren’s fate, we never do learn what happened to the statue’s head. Is it in the basement of Tom and Evan’s house, maybe? Stashed somewhere on “Dickhole Street”? Hopefully we’ll learn more when Widow’s Bay returns.
