Tell Us Your ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Thoughts

At long last, The Mandalorian and Grogu is finally here. Spinning out of the popular show and the first Star Wars movie in nearly a decade, it’s been impossible to escape. Would it be a sign that the show Dave Filoni’s recent promotion to lead Lucasfilm wasn’t a fluke, or would it be so bad that it puts the rest of the franchise in further disarray?

The answer to that question is in the eye of the beholder. Most critics aren’t jazzed about this movie, but audiences seem to be taking more kindly to it—or at least the ones that just want to hang out with two of their favorite guys on the big screen. To them, just the fact that this movie exists and has some reportedly fun action is enough, especially when it brings in some old blood from the animated movie like Rotta the Hutt and Zeb. But others won’t be able to get past that, or their speculation that this movie could’ve just been in the show it’s based on and not much would change.

On the other hand, maybe The Mandalorian and Grogu was always destined to be divisive in some way. After all, Star Wars fans are infamously not chill, and Din Djarin and Grogu are two of the bigger lightning rods for that schism. There’s just no getting around both the larger franchise baggage and the individual baggage of The Mandalorian show, hence much of the conversation concerning how nonexistent Din and Grogu are as characters and whether at least one of them has outlived his narrative usefulness. The Mandalorian and Grogu is just an easy outlet for folks to blow off some steam, including us—we’d like to know what you thought of it, spoilers and all, in the comments below.
