Here’s a First Look at Nothing’s Colorful New Headphone A

Nothing’s new wireless headphones are getting just a little bit more colorful. In an official teaser, the company showed off the Headphone A for the first time, and yellow is now in the mix. Previously, the Headphone 1—Nothing’s first pair of over-ear wireless headphones—were only available in black and white.

It’s a similar approach to what Nothing did with its Ear A, the cheaper, more playful version of its flagship wireless earbuds, and I’m all about it. In an email about the teaser, Nothing also used the phrase “colorways,” plural, so we can likely expect other options as well. For what it’s worth, Nothing’s newest Phone 4a, which it also teased officially recently, will come in a brand-new pink color, so perhaps the Headphones A will do the same.

According to Nothing, the pop of color isn’t the only difference. The Headphone A will also have the longest battery life of “any Nothing audio product to date,” which is at least a little bit surprising given the Headphone A is technically supposed to be the more budget-friendly version of the Headphone 1. For context, the Headphone 1 get about 35 hours of battery life with active noise cancellation (ANC) on, and 80 hours with ANC disabled. Not the best battery life in the world, but not too shabby, either.

To make the Headphone A less expensive than the $299 Headphone 1, Nothing will obviously have to compromise somewhere, and initial rumors point to a fully plastic build as opposed to the Headphone 1, which uses some aluminum in the frame. The ultimate cost is still an open question, but leaks suggest they could debut at about half the price. If the Headphone A sound even remotely as good as the Headphone 1, I’d consider them a steal. I do have some questions, though.

While the color is nice, there’s a chance that Headphone A might drop the cassette-like design on the outside of the earcups based on this teaser image—an aesthetic that I, and lots of others, love. Additionally, I’m wondering if the Headphone A will have the same zeal for buttons as the Headphone 1. There are all sorts of things to press on the Headphone 1, including a pill-shaped roller that you can use for volume and play/pause.

All of our questions will be answered soon enough, though. Nothing plans to fully unveil the Headphone A on March 5, and is also slated to reveal its Phone 4a, the successor to the midrange Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro.
