Chicken Jockey Beaten By Furries as ‘Zootopia 2’ Becomes 2025’s Top Domestic Movie

A Minecraft Movie‘s startling reign atop the U.S. box office charts was impressive—though not entirely surprising given that the video game adaptation starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa became a theatrical event, inspiring audience participation of Rocky Horror Picture Show-level proportions. But the chicken jockeys have now been dethroned by the almighty Zootopia 2.

If you’re wondering how a new box-office champion for 2025 can be declared in late February 2026, that’s because Zootopia 2 was released in November and therefore had a later run than A Minecraft Movie, which came out in April. But it still counts as a movie released in 2025, even if some of its bucks rolled in during 2026. The Oscar-nominated animated Disney film finally slipped past Momoa and company in its 13th week of release.

As Variety reports, Zootopia 2‘s domestic take now sits at $424.2 million, above A Minecraft Movie‘s $424.08 million. That’s one more feather for the sequel’s cap, since it was already “Hollywood’s biggest earner internationally ($1.425 billion) and worldwide ($1.85 billion),” among other accolades. It also set a new record for reaching $1 billion worldwide for any PG-rated film, having achieved that in just 17 days.

At this point, the only thing A Minecraft Movie can hold over Zootopia 2 is that A Minecraft Movie sequel has already been announced, while as of yet Disney hasn’t promised Zootopia 3. Given Disney’s fondness for sequels, it feels inevitable, though, doesn’t it?
