Google’s annual developer conference is fast approaching.
While there will be an in-person event, only a handful are going to be invited out to California. But it’s easy to tune in live from home, wherever you are in the world.
Here’s everything you need to know about Google I/O 2025, including start time, what to expect and how to watch.
When is Google I/O 2025?
Google I/O 2025 is officially confirmed to take place between 20-21 May 2025.
The main keynote will begin at 10am PST in California, which translates to 1pm EST or 6pm BST (UK time).
If the past events are anything to go by, this one should last for around two hours.

What to expect from Google I/O 2024
While Google hasn’t revealed what will be unveiled at this year’s event, previous years give us some idea of what to expect.
Android 16
For starters, it’s pretty much sure that Android 16 will be a key topic of the event.
Google has officially confirmed that Android 16 will launch earlier than previous versions, aiming for a release in the second quarter of 2025.
Due to the replacement of Android 15, the software may bring a system UI overhaul, including redesigned notification and Quick Settings panels, and more.

Google Gemini AI & more
We also expect to see news related to Gemini, whose human side was recently shown during the Super Bowl ad.
There might be further enhancements to Google’s Find My Device as well. The network debuted last year with Android 15 to rival Apple’s AirTags on Android phones.
Developer previews of Android 16 are already available, and a beta version should be released before Google I/O in May. Therefore, any discussion about it will likely focus on new features.
Pixel 10 series
We may hear more about the Pixel 10 series, even if they don’t officially launch until later in the year.
According to recent rumours, Google may be ditching Samsung and heading to TSMC to manufacture its own chipsets. This means that the Tensor G5 might be Google’s first fully in-house design built on TSMC’s 3nm process.

In terms of AI and machine learning, Google’s Tensor processors have already set themselves apart by excelling in these areas, and the Tensor G5 will likely push those capabilities even further.
Pixel 9a
Following the tradition of previous ‘a’ series Pixel launches, we’d expect the Pixel 9a to feature at Google I/O.
However, the phone is rumoured to launch on 19 March 2025, before going on sale a week later on 26 March.

Interestingly, another rumour suggests this will be a new permanent release schedule for all of the future budget-friendly Pixel phones.
Pixel Watch 4
We may see an update to Google’s Wear OS software for smartwatches, but new wearable hardware is also possible.
If so, the most likely scenario is the Pixel Watch 4, but don’t rule out it arriving later in the year.

All of the previous Pixel watches were unveiled at Google’s autumn hardware event, so we’ll probably have to wait longer this time too.
We’ll be covering the big news here on Tech Advisor, so check back for all the key details.
