When is Companion available to stream, rent and buy?

If you’re looking to start out your 2025 with a bloody bang, then Drew Hancock’s Companion will fit the bill. 

This black comedy thriller stars Sophie Thatcher as Iris, the girlfriend of Josh who whisks her away to a luxury cabin in the wilderness with a group of friends. However, the dream holiday turns into a nightmare when a shocking, violent act occurs.  

Companion is making headlines because the trailer essentially spoils the biggest twist – you can read more in Tech Advisor’s review. As such, you may be waiting for the film to hit home media rather than forking out for a cinema ticket. 

If that’s you, or you just can’t wait to watch it again after seeing it on the big screen, then here’s everything you need to know about the VOD, streaming and DVD release dates for Companion. 

How to watch Companion now 

Companion hits UK and US cinemas tomorrow, Friday 31 January 2025.  

You can pre-order your tickets from Cineworld, Odeon and Vue in the UK, while those in the US can get them from AMC Theatres, Fandango and Atom Tickets.

When could Companion be available on VOD? 

Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio behind Companion, hasn’t confirmed the digital release date for the film. However, we can look at other films from the company to determine when it might happen. 

If we look at Juror #2 or Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, they took just over a month to release on VOD platforms.  

Based on that, we’d expect Companion to be available for rental or purchase around late February 2025.  

The date may shift depending on how the film performs at the box office.  

When could Companion be available to stream? 

As this is a Warner film, Companion will almost certainly come to the streaming platform Max first in America. 

In 2022, David Zaslav confirmed that films would stay in cinemas for at least 45 days before hitting any streaming platforms. This decision was later backtracked, instead opting for a more flexible approach on a case-by-case basis.  

Regardless, the streaming release date usually happens after the VOD one, with most Warner films dropping between two-to-three months after debuting in cinemas. 

Based on that, we expect Companion to hit Max in either March or April 2025. 

Warner films typically land on Sky or Now in the UK, just a little bit after they are released in the US. So, a UK streaming release date of mid-spring 2025 seems plausible.

When could Companion be released on DVD/Blu-ray? 

Physical copies of Warner films usually drop around two months after dropping on VOD – this was the case for Juror #2 and The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim. 

If our above prediction is accurate, then Companion should drop on DVD/Blu-ray around late April 2025.  

Please take all these estimations with a pinch of salt, as Warner hasn’t confirmed anything yet. We’ll update this article with official dates as soon as we have them.
