We Finally Know Real Things About the Next J.J. Abrams Movie

Over six years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, J.J. Abrams has another movie hitting the big screen, and it’s coming this year.

It’s titled The Great Beyond, and Warner Bros. has planted a November 13 flag for the upcoming flick. It stars Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophie Okonedo, Emma Mackey, and Merritt Wever.

We don’t know yet what it’s about—or whether it’ll employ Abrams’ classic “Mystery Box” storytelling and marketing technique. It probably will, but who can say for sure? We’ll find out more in the coming months. And if you’re someone into the filmography of J.J. Abrams, you’ve got more of him to look forward to: he’s also making a movie with Dwayne Johnson and producing another starring Brie Larson.

Additionally, WB also revealed an August 13, 2027 date for Tim Miller’s now-untitled sci-fi movie. Once known as Shiver, the film stars Keanu Reeves as a smuggler who keeps looping back to a job in the Caribbean that becomes a double-cross between pirates and mercenaries. And if the time loop weren’t enough of a problem, Reeves also has sharks to deal with.

Finally, we’ve got another Conjuring movie on our hands. (So much for 2025’s Last Rites being the last one for a while.) Currently subtitled First Communion, the new flick will arrive on September 10, 2027. At time of writing, all we know about Communion is its date and that it’s directed by Rodrigue Huart, whose previous credits include the horror short Transylvanie and the upcoming Suffer Little Children.
