The Sandman Wakes Up for Season 2 in July

The next and final season of The Sandman is dropping this summer. And much like The Witcher and Stranger Things, it’s going out as a two-parter: six episodes will air on July 3, followed by the final five on July 24.

Netflix revealed its first trailer for the supernatural series, which stars Tom Sturridge as Dream of the Endless. According to the logline, Dream will reunite with former friends and enemies, “facing one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds. […] But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.” The series also stars Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Boyd Holbrook, Gwendoline Christie, and Donna Preston.

After years of various creative teams attempting to adapt The Sandman, including to film, Netflix gained the rights and released season one in 2022. It opened to pretty good reviews and another season was greenlit. Last year, executive producer Neil Gaiman—who co-created the original Vertigo comic with Sam Keith and Mike Dringenberg—was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women over the years. Over the summer and as recently as this January, Netflix and other companies distanced themselves or cut ties with Gaiman. At the time of writing, Prime Video’s Anansi Boys may be the final show based on one of Gaiman’s works.

For those wanting to see The Sandman through to the end, you have your dates: July 3 and 24, on Netflix.
