We’ve known for a while that Jon Bernthal has been working on a big, bloody solo adventure for the Punisher. Now, we know when it’s coming—and it’s perfectly bridging the gap between Marvel’s next big TV show and its next big movie.
This morning, ahead of Daredevil: Born Again season 2’s debut—in which, as far as we know, Frank will not appear—Marvel Studios confirmed that the Punisher’s standalone special, now titled One Last Kill, will hit Disney+ on May 12. The studio also confirmed that it would come a week after the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again, which arrives on May 5.

There’s still actually very little known about the series, other than that Bernthal has repeatedly promised lots of action and lots of violence. Given it’s using the same “special presentation” framing we saw with the similarly gory Werewolf By Night, it’s not too surprising that Marvel is leveraging the branding to let people know this is something a little different.
Although Frank’s skipping out on Born Again‘s sophomore season, he is, of course, heading to the big screen a few months after One Last Kill, Battle Van in tow, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (his Daredevil co-stars couldn’t make it, apparently). Presumably One Last Kill will at least do a little explaining as to why Frank’s out of town for another term of Mayor Fisk, before being back in time to cross paths with Spider-Man, but it’s probably best to not expect too much connective glue for a largely family-friendly Spider-Man movie to be necessarily made in a special dedicated to Frank Castle violently offing people.
That said, it is pretty funny that we’re going to see the Punisher go from blasting people to goopy bits to having to have his mouth webbed up before he can even get half a curse out of his mouth, in just the space of a couple months. Brand synergy!
The Punisher: One Last Kill hits Disney+ on May 12.
