The OnePlus Pad 3 might not be the tablet you were expecting

OnePlus has just announced a new globally available tablet in the OnePlus Pad 3, and it’s the second tablet to bear that moniker in the past six months.

Back in December, OnePlus announced the OnePlus Pad 3 for its home territory of China. This isn’t that tablet.

Rather, the OnePlus Pad 3 that will launch in much of the rest of the globe (including the UK and Europe) on 5 June appears to be the device that was recently announced in China as the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro.

Thankfully, the OnePlus Pad 3 that we’re getting is shaping up to be the better of the two.

The fastest Android tablet yet?

This naming scheme will scramble your brains if you let it, so content yourself with this simple fact: The OnePlus Pad 3 that will be fully unveiled on 5 June is going to be one of the most capable tablets on the market.

The reason we can say that last part comes down to the fact that the OnePlus Pad 3 will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip – still just about the best mobile chip out there.

If this is indeed the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro by another name (which, let’s face it, it is) it’ll be fronted by a 13.2-inch LCD with a 3.4K resolution and a 144Hz peak refresh rate. We won’t get confirmation of that until 5 June though.

OnePlus

The OnePlus Pad 3 will also ship with Open Canvas, the company’s smart proprietary multitasking interface, which has apparently been upgraded since the OnePlus Pad 2.

This time around the OnePlus Pad 3 plays nicely with other devices, including Macs. You can apparently use the tablet for remote control of Apple-branded computers.

In the UK the OnePlus Pad 3 will come in a single colour: Storm Blue. This is described as “a dusty royal blue that effortlessly blends into all environments”.

Early bird OnePlus Pad 3 offers

There’s a tempting early bird offer in play too. Reserve a OnePlus Pad 3 ahead of launch for just £1, which will get you a bunch of ‘Bonus Drop’ incentives.

That includes a £50 discount coupon on the OnePlus Pad 3 itself, which can be spent between 5 June and 31 July. You’ll also get a gift code for a free OnePlus SuperVooc 80W Dual Ports GaN Power Adapter Kit, worth £49.99, and can be redeemed during that same period.

The OnePlus Pad 3 will officially launch on June 5, when presumably we’ll learn more on the specs and pricing.
