The first trailer for Other Mommy was totally unnerving, giving us a peek at Jessica Chastain’s dual role as a regular human mother—and a creature who exactly resembles a regular human mother, except for her tendency toward very creepy behavior. This new trailer, which leans into the film’s behind-the-scenes connections to Obsession and Backrooms, doubles down on the parental freak show.
Two words: bubble bath. Two more words: ball pit. Watch, and be glad you’re not a little kid realizing for the first time that adults aren’t always who they say they are.
Unlike 2026 horror sensations Obsession and Backrooms, the James Wan-produced Other Mommy has literary origins; it’s based on the book Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, who also wrote Bird Box. Rob Savage, whose previous horror credits include Host and The Boogeyman, directs the Oscar-winning Chastain, with Arabella Olivia Clark (The Housemaid) playing the girl who realizes her mom’s doppelganger isn’t so “nice” after all. In fact, she has deeply malevolent intentions, and she’s not afraid to crash a kiddie play zone to try and get what she wants.
The rest of the cast includes Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman (Severance), Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen (the Indiana Jones films).
