The Monsterverse loves monsters, of course, but it also loves the Russell family. Season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is on the way, which stars Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell as the old and young versions of the same character, Colonel Lee Shaw. And now, a new show is coming with Wyatt Russell reprising that younger version of his father’s character, but slightly older.

The spinoff series, which Wyatt Russell will also produce, “follows the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.” That’s interesting because, on Monarch, Wyatt plays Shaw in the 1950s, so this will tell a story kind of in the middle of the events on that show.

Also as part of the news, Apple and Legendary announced that Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold will showrun and become the new overseer of the Monsterverse, responsible for this new show, Monarch, and whatever else might be in the works.

“I could not feel more privileged to be a part of building out this wildly iconic universe,” Harold said in a press release. “Apple and Legendary have been exemplary partners throughout this process, and we will continue to bring these Titans of cinematic history to audiences with the reverence they deserve.”

No word on what the show will be called or when it will be coming out, but the character will next be seen in season two of Monarch, which debuts on Apple TV February 27, 2026.

That show expanded a connected universe that began on the big screen with 2014’s Godzilla, then continued into 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, and then 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Next up on that track is Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which will be out on March 26, 2027.
