The Japanese Spider-Man Is Getting an Amazing Hot Toys Figure

Toei’s 1978 Spider-Man series made history, not just for Marvel’s adaptation ambitions but for how it went on to influence one of Japan’s most enduring tokusatsu franchises, Super Sentai. In the years since, Spider-Man has received a rightful reappraisal in the west, going from a kooky piece of Spidey history to a character that has been highlighted in the comics, given even silver screen ambitions, and the subject of documentaries that praised the show’s place in superheroic history. And now, that legacy is getting perhaps the most suitable piece of honor left for a Spider-Man beyond all that: a very swanky Hot Toys figure.

Not content with just threatening your wallet with its new Predator Badlands reveals recently, today Hot Toys announced that it would be making its first-ever 1:6 scale replica of the 1978 Spider-Man, Takuya Yamashiro, in his classic costume.

Featuring an opening spider-bracelet on the left wrist—the multi-purpose communicator device Takuya used to transform into his suit, summon his giant robot Leopardon, and even shoot webs—the figure also comes with a series of alternate hands to recreate iconic poses and stances from the TV show and multiple webbing effects pieces, including a bendable rope of webbing for posing Spider-Man mid-swing. The release is rounded off with a special display stand replicating the opening title card of the show (and its iconic theme song), which even has a separate acrylic display piece of the show’s logo for you to pose Takuya with.

Hot Toys’ line of Spidey figures has run a true gamut of deep cuts and nods across the character’s comic book, video game, and movie adaptation history, but it’s nice to finally see this classic TV iteration of one of Marvel’s most beloved heroes get the spotlight he deserves. The 1:6 1978 Spider-Man is expected to release some time between Q4 2025 and Q1 2026 next year, and although he’s not yet available to preorder in the US quite yet, you can probably expect to pay around the usual $250 that Hot Toys figures command.
