Throughout 2024, Magic the Gathering has released crossover packs featuring popular franchises like Fallout and Assassin’s Creed through its Universes Beyond line. Naturally, the popular card game has more brands up its sleeve, chief among them being Marvel, whose packs got their first full reveal at New York Comic-Con ahead of their November 4 release.
The Secret Lair Superdrop features 27 cards spread across five Marvel heroes: Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, Black Panther, and Wolverine. (While Steve Rogers and Logan are the stars of their respective sets, their successors Sam Wilson and Laura Kinney also pop up in some cards.) Along with standard instant and sorcery cards themed around their respective hero, the packs will also come with a new legendary card for their respective hero. For example, if you deal combat damage to a player with Storm’s legendary, the next instant or sorcery spell in the turn will also apply storm damage. You can see the cards and their effects right below.
Wizards of the Coast made it pretty clear Magic’s got more Marvel up its sleeve. Spider-Man will headline a tentpole set expected to hit next year, and WOTC teased this Secret Lair drop is “just the beginning” of its partnership with Marvel. “Hasbro will continue to bring new ways for players to express their Marvel fandom through Magic: The Gathering’s collection of Universes Beyond crossover products,” said the press release.
Marvel comes to Magic: The Gathering when the Secret Lair Superdrop goes on sale beginning November 4 for $40 (non-foil) or $50 (foil in a limited print run).
