Darth Maul’s come a long way since Obi-Wan cut him in half: he got new legs! He also got a brother, and they both became crime lords until Palpatine showed up. But before his final encounter with Obi-Wan in Star Wars Rebels, he tried to build himself back up again, and that’s what Star Wars: Maul—Shadow Lord is all about.
Set a year after the Clone Wars, which he survived during the Fall of Mandalore, Maul (again voiced by Sam Witwer) is now working to rebuild the criminal empire that fell apart after his master showed up. . More than the various criminal elements around at the start of the Empire’s reign, Maul’s actions draws the attention of not just the Inquisitors—in particular, Marrok, last seen in Star Wars: Ahsokas—but also seemingly a surviving Twi’lek Jedi.
Like Bad Batch before it, Shadow Lord is a mini-reunion of Star Wars animation alums. Not only is the series made by new Lucasfilm head Dave Filoni, but it also sees the return of Brad Rau, Matt Michonvetz, and Athena Portillo, all of whom wrote or directed episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, along with Rebels and Bad Batch.
Star Wars: Maul—Shadow Lord will hit Disney+ on April 6.
