Life often can feel almost comically repetitive. You wake up, get dressed, go through your daily routine, come home, eat, and go to bed. You do this over and over and over. The daily cycle is an idea that’s been used to great effect in books, movies, games, and more. And now, one of those games is becoming a movie, and it looks seriously creepy.

The movie in question, based on the game of the same name, is Exit 8. Both follow a protagonist who gets stuck in an infinite loop inside a subway station and must find the anomalies in order to survive and escape. Which, in a video game, makes sense. But how does that translate to a movie? Director Genki Kawamura has the answer, and after a successful run on the festival circuit, it’s coming to theaters April 10. Here’s the first trailer for Exit 8.

Exit 8 had its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival last year before stopping off at the Toronto International Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival, and Busan International Film Festival. It’s already a hit in Japan, and now we’ll see how it fares in the U.S. If it’s half as good as that trailer, we’re in for quite the ride.

It stars Kazunari Ninomiya, Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, Kotone Hanase, and Nana Komatsu, and here’s how the official press release describes it: “The rules of [the] quest are simple: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don’t, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. But even a single oversight will send him back to the beginning. Will he ever reach his goal and escape this infinite corridor?”

We’d imagine, since it’s a movie, he will, whereas in the game, maybe you wouldn’t. Are you looking forward to this one?
