‘The Batman Part II’ May Be Adding a Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson

It’s finally happening, friends. After years of waiting for Matt Reeves to finish his script for The Batman Part II, not only is that script now done, but casting has begun. The first major new role in the film is about to be filled, and it’s a big one. Scarlett Johansson is in final negotiations to star in the 2027 Bat-sequel.

Nexus Point first reported the casting, which was soon followed by Deadline. Neither has any idea who Johansson is playing, but for an actress as hugely talented and bankable as Johansson to take it, it’s got to be something big. Poison Ivy, perhaps? Vicky Vale? A new character? We don’t know. It won’t be Catwoman, though, as that role is already being played by Zoe Kravitz, though rumor has it she won’t appear in this film.

What we do know is that Johansson is keeping very busy. She just signed to star in Mike Flanagan’s new Exorcist movie (the Hollywood Reporter notes she’ll film that before The Batman Part II) and is expected to return for a sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth too. That would give her three major franchises simultaneously, which, of course, comes after she helped bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe to prominence as Black Widow.

Reeves is set to start filming next year, aiming at an October 1, 2027, release. Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Colin Farrell has confirmed he’ll return as the new crime prince of Gotham City, Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin. Rumors have also been running rampant that Reeves is bringing in a new, major Batman villain into the mix. One we haven’t seen on the big screen yet. Which, since there have been so many Batman movies in the past 40 years, isn’t a very long list.

Who do you think Johansson is playing, though? Does her involvement change your level of anticipation for the film? Let us know below.
