‘Scream 7’ Comes Home With Deleted Scenes We Hope Will Improve the Movie

We’ve made it very clear that we were not fans of Scream 7. It just felt like even the return of star Neve Campbell and series co-creator Kevin Williamson couldn’t save a film that had issues from the start. Nevertheless, the film was a huge hit in theaters and is now making its way home, with plenty of bonus features, some of which are mighty intriguing.

Scream 7 will be released on March 31 for digital download, followed by the Blu-ray, 4K, and DVD release on June 16. All versions come with 40 min of special features, which break down as follows, as per the press release:

Featurettes:

  • Scar Tissue: The Making of Scream 7: Kevin Williamson takes the helm! Watch the legacy cast survive the set of the most personal Scream yet. Don’t forget the rules.
  • Building Tension: Production Design: Discover the designs behind the goriest death traps and get an inside look at the making of the iconic Macher house!
  • Dance of Death: Stunts: What does it take to be a final girl? Go inside the choreography of the film’s most intense chases and physical face-offs with Ghostface.

Music Video:

  • Ice Nine Kills Presents “Twisting The Knife” Featuring McKenna Grace: Ice Nine Kills and McKenna Grace team up for the ultimate slasher anthem. Watch the extended cut of this killer musical collaboration when you buy on digital. (Extended version available on digital. Standard version available on Blu-ray and 4K UHD disc.)

Deleted Scenes:

  • Scott Is Ghostface
  • Chloe and Lucas Connect
  • Tatum and Ben Say Goodbye
  • Jessica and Sidney Chat
  • Tatum and Ben Leave Bar
  • Chad and Mindy

While it’s always nice to have some featurettes and stuff, we’re most focused on these deleted scenes. In a movie that didn’t have a lot of narrative cohesion and could’ve used a bit more meat on the bone to aid in that, you’d hope that these deleted scenes could, potentially, iron out some of the film’s flaws.

But will they? From those descriptions, we don’t have a lot of faith. “Scott is Ghostface,” for example, almost certainly refers to Jimmy Tatro’s character from the opening, who has nothing to do with the plot. “Chloe and Lucas” are also kind of tertiary characters whose “connecting” probably won’t add much. Tatum saying goodbye to her boyfriend Ben feels superfluous at best, as does their leaving a bar.

But “Jessica and Sidney Chat” is interesting. Jessica (played by Anna Camp) is, um, a pretty important character in the film, and any more info about her and her motivations could help smooth out some things. And then “Chad and Mindy,” being the two characters who carried over from the previous films, could maybe help build out that connection, something that was missing in the final edit. So maybe, just maybe, these scenes could be at least a little additive.

Fans won’t have to wait long to find out as Scream 7 hits digital this week. Will you be watching again?
