Samsung is rumoured to be skipping One UI 7 altogether when it comes to its Galaxy Watch smartwatch range.
According to a new claim from leaker IposDev (and backed up by Sammobile), Samsung may well skip One UI 7 Watch later this year and head straight to One UI 8 Watch.
Why Samsung may skip One UI 7 Watch
The current Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 currently runs on One UI 6 Watch, with WearOS 5 at its core.
Having launched back in July 2024, alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6, this software provision has fallen out of sync with the rest of the company’s smart devices.
Starting with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series in January, Samsung’s top smartphones (and now its not-so-top ones too) run on a full fat version of One UI 7.
According to the aforementioned sources, Samsung wants to bring its wearable range in line with its smartphones. It’ll do this by jumping straight to One UI 8 for its next big smartwatch OS update later this year.

What do we know about One UI 8 Watch
We don’t have any firm details about Samsung’s next smartwatch UI at this point, but we do have a firm idea of what the focus will be.
Last week Samsung held its latest earnings call, at which executive Daniel Araujo revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 (which will surely run One UI 8 Watch out of the box) will feature “enhanced health-related features”. Samsung also mentioned a heavy AI focus.
The new watch itself is set to feature “an innovative design”, and there have been numerous signs that this year will see the return of the Classic model with its rotating bezel. This would be the first such model since the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic in 2023.
