It looks like Samsung is preparing a surprise for us in early 2025 in the form of a new smart ring.
We previously reported at the beginning of November that the Galaxy Ring 2 might arrive earlier, but this time we know a more precise date.
As the brand is gearing up for its much-anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event, reportedly scheduled to take place on 22 January, this flagship event is expected to reveal not only the Galaxy S25 series but also the second generation of Samsung’s smart ring.
Samsung’s first-generation Galaxy Ring was unveiled in multiple stages, with truly surprise teasers at the Galaxy S24 series launch in January 2024, a showcase at MWC in February, followed by a full launch in July.
In contrast, the Galaxy Ring 2 might simply launch earlier in the year rather than arriving in the summer to create a 12-month refresh cycle. Samsung may also launch its first XR headset at the Unpacked event.
This strategic move reflects Samsung’s intention to position the Ring 2 as a direct competitor to Oura, which has sold over 2.5 million smart rings since its founding in 2013. It recently launched the Oura Ring 4.

Previously, well-known leaker Max Jambor reported that the original Galaxy Ring will receive two additional sizes: size 14 (SM-Q514) weighing 3.2g and measuring 23mm inside diameter, plus size 15 (SM-Q515) weighing 3.2g and measuring 23.8mm inside diameter.
However, DigiTimes is now reporting that these additional sizes will actually be available on the Galaxy Ring 2, not the original Galaxy Ring. This would bring the total number to 11, although this is still not the size range offered by competitor Oura Ring 4.
Significant upgrades might also include more precise health data sensors, improved AI-driven functionalities and an expected battery life of over seven days.
Despite these advancements, there is no confirmation on whether NFC support will be included in this iteration.
