Rosamund Pike Thinks the ‘Doom’ Movie Almost Ended Her Career

Do you remember the Doom movie from 2005, based on id Software’s first three games? If not, don’t remember, Rosamund Pike definitely does, and not in an especially positive light.

Pike recently guest starred on Elizabeth Day’s How to Fail podcast, where she talked about her brief jump over to action movies after filming Pride & Prejudice. She’d had some experience when she was Miranda Frost in 2002’s Die Another Day, but the Doom movie could’ve marked a potential pivot point that she says turned out to be a huge wakeup call. The movie, where she plays Sam Grimm (sister of Karl Urban’s Reaper), made her realize “how utterly ill-equipped I am to be an action star,” she told Day.

“I was just out of my comfort zone, out of my league, my depth, and the film was an absolute bomb,” Pike continued. She went on to call it “probably one of the worst films ever made” and said it “could’ve ended my career. […] I don’t read the reviews, but you get the sense you’re lucky to have survived that one.” Yowch, but not exactly an unpopular thought: at the time, the film received pretty negative reviews and was a box-office bomb. This also isn’t the first time she’s commented on the movie, since in 2021, she kicked herself a bit for not knowing the games before accepting the role.

The good news is, Doom didn’t kill her career (or anyone’s really), and she’s even dipped back into action with The Wheel of Time. (RIP.) Meanwhile, id has revitalized the Doom games, with the most recent game landing in 2025. But we probably shouldn’t expect the studio to get involved with another adaptation any time soon, if another even happens.
