Not going to lie—we kind of had the same reaction to Ready or Not‘s sequel title as we did to the new Now You See Me movie. Both follow-up films complete a phrase: the magician heist series is taking the logical next step with Now You See Me, Now You Don’t—and the Samara Weaving-starring horror comedy went right to… Ready or Not: Here I Come.
Deadline reports that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream, Scream VI, Abigail) have also filled in the cast that’ll surround the returning Weaving. A lot of new faces are necessary since, as fans of the first Ready or Not will recall, pretty much everyone else either died either fighting her badass bride character, or exploded for curse-related reasons at the end of the film.
Kathryn Newton (who was in Abigail) was already announced as part of the cast, but the new additions are horror notables Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, and David Cronenberg (yes! He also acts! Have you seen Star Trek: Discovery or Jason X?)—as well as Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, and fellow Abigail vet Kevin Durand.
Weaving will again play Grace, whose next move was unknown after surviving the most surreal game of hide-and-seek after what was decidedly not the wedding of her dreams—but with returning scripters Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy back for more, it seems likely more clever plotting and deliciously awful gore will be in store.
Deadline reports the film has just started production, and while there are no details about the story, Searchlight Pictures’ Matthew Greenfield teased another wild ride in a statement to the trade: “With Ready or Not: Here I Come, we get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that’s every bit as twisted and fun as the first one. This is for those who’ve been waiting, and those who didn’t see it coming.”
